Body of Water
I look through the window
I see a figure
They look much darker
Swollen by solemness
I wish I could reach them
But I can only touch the glass
And I realize I’m looking
In the eyes of my past
How can I stand here now?
Watching my tears fall
Splitting my cheeks open
Bleeding devotion
Is this how I go?
You succumbed to the ocean
Sold your soul for a shoreline
And you thought it would save you
And I thought I believed you
But like the sea at night
I’m so dark and so blue
How can I stand here now?
Waiting for you in this crowd
Everything’s breaking
As my heart’s crashing down
The secrets you’re speaking
Pulling me out into a body of water
I searched for my own
But I lacked the strength
To resist the undertow
I wanted to be known
But I lacked the strength
To know when I should go
I desired a heartbeat
But I lacked the strength
To know that it’s not me
I searched for a soul
A shred of identity
I no longer hold
Where do I swim to now?
You’ve rocked me under
And taken me down
This body of water
Washes me over
How can I stand here now?
Say that I’m proud of my missteps and lies
How can I hold my head high?
When the world keeps on passing me by
I look through the window
Or maybe a mirror
I look for a sign of life
To make mine clearer
