DAFFODIL REFLECTIONS

i lost my mind in a rainstorm
a frolic in the fields
my tears entwined with sweat
in a baptism of unresolved bitterness

the rain flooded my worries,
drowned my tongue in a sea of hurry
i held tightly to my breath
in the form of you directly before me

i strung my thoughts through a lifeline
i remarked would be my last
for when my heart was on a platter
you paused before you passed

as the soil makes way to grass
i make way to gratitude
the rain tells of effervescence
where i once perceived a curse

my eyes then catch the glimmer
of the burnt sun’s fatal glow
piercing through a fractured field
a propagation of the soul

to be captive in this memory
a fragrant wildfire
is to know eternity
in the sight of such a smile

a mirror or a journal
i could never tell the difference
til i was flattened by the forest
the nature of my emotions
