Unicorn

I have a unicorn on my shin
And an angel on my shoulder
You said you liked my skin
How it’s stained deep within
You were lying, whom can I kid?
Only wanted me in your bed
Wish I could remember now
Your face when I left

And I wonder about
The people who’re dead
Do they know I miss them?
Feel the weight in my head

I can picture him now
His face so silent
When he used to be laughing
Telling jokes so violent

And I guess I was shot
When their souls did depart
I was seared right through
Each one left a mark

Back seat, St Louis
I can still see the arch
How his arm felt distant
When I was wrapped in touch

Are these tears now my friend?
The only one to the end
I was born in salt water,
Baptized again

I fear this is all
That I’ve known and will live
In the absence of people
And what I never said
